As the Chair of Sustainability and Innovation Management (will be hired in the rank of Assistant
Professor in the Department of Textile Engineering of AUST), you will be expected to become a leading
expert in the field of Corporate Sustainability and Innovation Management in the production of the
textile and garment industry. You will have a strong focusin the area of social, ecological and economic
sustainability with the ultimate aim of setting up a Chair for Sustainability and Innovation Management
at Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST) in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

The successful candidate will complete a fully funded 8-month stay in Dresden, Germany at the United
Nations University Institute for Integrated Management of Material Fluxes and of Resources (UNUFLORES) and Technical University Dresden (TU Dresden), both based in Dresden, Germany. It is
intended that the stay will take place in 2020 starting in. During this period, you will also complete a
one-month internship with Engelbert Strauss, a German leading manufacturer of workwear, apparel
and work-equipment, to be completed at their central campus in Biebergemünd, Germany to gain
practical expertise in the textile and garment industry. Upon completion of the training you will begin
your Assistant Professor role at AUST under the Department of Textile Engineering. You will work in a
highly interesting environment at the interface between economics and ecology, you will participate
in the transfer of knowledge into company practice and receive intensive supervision during the
research stay in Dresden.

Academic Stay in Germany
During your training period you will be mentored by staff at TU Dresden and UNU-FLORES and
participate in Bachelor and Master level courses offered by the Chair of Sustainability Management
and Environmental Accounting at TU Dresden and in e-learning at UNU-FLORES. You will work with and
be supervised by leading scientists, and academics from a wide range of disciplines comprising of
natural sciences, engineering and the social sciences. Opportunities to develop your career by
improving your teaching- and research skills, or German language skills will also be considered. Upon

Required Qualifications and Experience:

• 4 years Bachelor’s degree in Textile engineering/ Textile Technology, with a minimum CGPA of
3.5 in a scale of 4.0 (or equivalent First Class)
• Having minimum First Division/ CGPA of 4.5 (on the scale of 5.0 & 5.0) in SSC & HSC or its
• A Master’s degree in sustainability management/ textile engineering/ textile design,
environmental science from a recognized University with a minimum of 3 years of active
teaching experience
A Master’s degree in sustainability management/ textile engineering/ textile design/
environmental science from a recognized University with a minimum of 6 years of professional
A Ph.D degree or its equivalent in relevant field from a recognized University
• A minimum of 3 publications of which 1 should be in a reputed and indexed journal as first
• Knowledge of the textile industry and/or its social, ecological and economic challenges;
• Knowledge of statistical methods and experience in working with standard business software
(e.g. Microsoft Office);
• Interest to adapt modern teaching skills and methods as well as curriculum development;
• Long-term commitment to become a Faculty member of the Department of Textile
Engineering at AUST in Dhaka and to setup the Chair for Sustainability and Innovation
• Willingness to travel both nationally (within Bangladesh) and internationally (possession of
international travel documents e.g. passport);
• Interest in managing international multi-stakeholder projects
• Fluency in English both in written and oral communication (valid IELTS test result is an

• Work experience in sustainability and education related projects is an advantage
• Willingness to collaborate in interdisciplinary teamwork

Assistance on the formalities of the research stay in Dresden (e.g. accommodation costs, subsistence
